કળાને આશ્રય આપવા માટે જાણીતો વાંકાનેરનો રાજવી પરિવાર ઈજનેરી અને સ્થાપત્યમાં અંગત રસ ધરાવતો હતો, નામદાર અમરસિંહજીએ 1907ના વર્ષમાં ડિઝાઈન કરેલો રણજિત વિલાસ રાજમહેલ તેનો નમૂનો છે.
રાજમહેલનાં બે અતિથિ ગૃહો, ધ રોયલ રેસિડન્સી અને ધ રોયલ ઓએસિસ હવે હેરિટેજ હૉટેલો છે. ધ રોયલ ઓએસિસ મચ્છુ સરોવરના કિનારે ઘટાદાર વૃક્ષોની શાંત વાડીઓની વચ્ચે આવેલું છે. અહીંનું પક્ષીઓનું ધીમું, સુરીલું ગાન અને ઠંડકવાળું વાતાવરણ ધ્યાનની શાંતિ બનાવે છે. આ અતિથિગૃહ તેની અંદર જ રાજમહેલનાં મેદાનોની નજીક આવેલી વીસમી સદીની શરૂઆતની એક વાવ સાથેનો આર્ટ ડેકો શૈલીનો વિશાળ સ્વિમિંગ પુલ પણ ધરાવે છે. વાંકાનેર જૂની કાઠિયાવાડી આતિથ્યભાવના અને ગૌરવને પ્રતિબિંબિત કરે છે.
The Royal Oasis and the Residency are located in the erstwhile princely state of Wankaner. The palace is a stupendous work of Venetian-Gothic architecture in an oriental vein, with arches, balconies, marble biradaris and pillared porticoes. The interiors are equally delightful in their profusion of Italian marble, stained glass windows, European chandeliers, French crystal, Belgian glass, Burma teak furniture, Persian rugs, custom woven Mirzapur carpets, magnificent drawing room and spiral staircases.
