દેવાયત બોદર -કાઠીયાવાડ નું સાચું ખમીર

ઇ.સ. ૧૦૧૦નાં સમયમાં જુનાગઢ રાજ્ય ઉપર રા’ડિયાસનું શાસન તપતું હતું. ત્યારે સોલંકીઓએ દગાથી રા’ડિયાસની સેનાને હરાવી રાજાની હત્યા કરી હતી. પરંતુ કુળદપિ રા’નવઘણને બોડીદરનાં જ આહીર દેવાયત બોદરનાં ઘરે પહોંચાડવામાં આવ્યો હતો. બાર વર્ષ બાદ તેની જાણ સોલંકીઓને થતાં દેવાયતને બોલાવી સોલંકીનાં દુશ્મનને તેમની પાસેથી માંગ્યો ત્યારે દેવાયત બોદરે તેમનાં પુત્રને આપી દીધો હતો. અને તેમની નજર સામે તેનો વધ કર્યો હતો. અને સમય જતાં રા’નવઘણને લઇ જુનાગઢ જીતી લીધું હતું. આમ ઈતિહાસમાં દેવાયત બોદર તેમની પત્ની આહિરાણી અને ઉગો- અમર થઇ ગયા છે.

ગુજરાતનાં સોલંકીવંશના રાજા દુર્લભસેનની રાણીઓ કાઠિયાવાડની જાત્રાએ નીકળે છે. દામોકુંડમાં સ્નાન કરવાનો વેરો જૂનાગઢના રાજવી રા’ડિયાસે માંગતા રાણીઓને માઠું લાગ્યું અને સ્નાન કર્યા વિના પાટણ પાછી ફરી. અપમાનનો બદલો લેવા દુર્લભસેને જૂનાગઢ પર ચડાઈ કરી, પણ દિવસો સુધી મથવા છતાં ગઢનો કાંગરો ય ખેરવી શક્યો નહીં. છેવટે એક ચારણને જૂનાગઢના મહેલમાં રા’ નું માથું દાનમાં માગી લેવા મોકલ્યો. રા’ એ હરફ પણ ઉચ્ચાર્યો નહિ અને કવિરાજને માથું ઉતારી આપ્યું. આમ, સોલંકીઓએ કપટથી રા’ડિયાસને મારી જૂનાગઢ હાથ કર્યું, જેથી રા’ની તમામ રાણીઓએ આત્મવિલોપન કર્યું. તેમાંની સોમલદે નામની રાણી મરતાં પહેલા પોતાનાં નાના બાળકને એક વડારણ બાઈને સોંપતી ગઈ. આ બાળક એ જ નવઘણ – રા’ ના કુળનો છેલ્લો વંશજ. પેલી વડારણ બાઈ જેમતેમ કરીને બાળ નવઘણને બોડીદર ગામના દેવાયત આહીર પાસે પહોંચાડે છે. દેવાયતને નવઘણની એ જ ઉંમરનાં બે સંતાન છે – દીકરો વાહણ અને દીકરી જાહલ. સોલંકીઓનો કેર હોવાં છતાં બહાદુર આહીર દંપતિ નવઘણને સ્વીકારે છે. હવે બે ને બદલે ત્રણ સંતાનો દેવાયતના ઘરમાં ઉછરે છે. સમય પસાર થતો જાય છે. ત્રણેય બાળકો માનો ખોળો મૂકી ફળીમાં રમતા થાય છે. એવે વખતે કોઈ જાણભેદુ સોલંકીઓના થાણેદારના કાન ભંભેરે છે અને વાત છતી થાય છે. ગામના ચોકમાં તમામ આહીરોને એકઠા કરી સોલંકીઓનો થાણેદાર એક-એકને પૂછે છે કે “સાચે જ દેવાયતના ઘરમાં રાજનો દુશ્મન ઉછરી રહ્યો છે?”. વફાદર આહીરો મગનું નામ મરી પાડતા નથી. આખરે દેવાયતને બોલાવી થાણેદાર એને જ પૂછે છે, અને સૌનાં આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે દેવાયત આ વાતની પુષ્ટિ કરતાં કહે છે – “મારે તો રાજભક્તિ દેખાડવી હતી. ડિયાસનો દીકરો મારે ઘરે ઊઝરતો નથી. પણ કેદમાં રાખેલ છે. એ મોટો થાત એટલુ હું મારી જાણે જ દોરીને એની ગરદન સોળંકીયુંને સોંપી દેત. હું સોળંકીઓનો લૂણહરામી નથી.” પછી તો ઘરે પત્ની પર કાગળ લખી દેવાયત નવઘણને તેડાવે છે. કાગળમાં લખે છે – “રા’ રાખીને વાત કરજે”. “રા’ રાખીને વાત કરજે” – સોરઠી ભાષાના આ કોયડાને ગુજરાતનાં સોલંકીઓ પકડી ન શક્યા, પણ દેવાયતની પત્ની બધું જ સમજી ગઈ. હૈયા પર પથ્થર મૂકીને એણે પેટના દીકરા વાહણને તૈયાર કરીને મોકલ્યો. નાનકડા વાહણને જોતાં જ આખો આહીર ડાયરો દેવાયતની સ્વામી-ભક્તિ પર ઓવારી ગયો. ખુદ બાપના હાથે દીકરાની સોલંકીઓએ કતલ કરાવી. મર્યો છે એ નવઘણ જ છે એ વાતની ખરાઈ કરવા, તેમેણે મૃત દીકરાની આંખો પર ઉઘાડા પગે આહીરાણીને ચાલવાની ફરજ પાડી! પતિ-પત્નીએ હસતા મોંએ પુત્રનું બલિદાન આપી રા’ ના કુળદીપકને જલતો રાખ્યો!

રા’નવઘણની વાત અહીં પસંદ કરવા પાછળનો હેતુ એ જ છે. આ વાતની સાથે સંકળાયેલી જે વાત ઓછી જાણીતી છે તે એ કે કેટલાય વર્ષ સુધી વાહણના મૃત્યુ વિશે એક આંસુ ન પાડનાર આહિરાણીએ જ્યારે રા’નવઘણ જુનાગઢનો રાજા બને છે ત્યારે વર્ષો પછી પોકે પોકે રડે છે અને વાહણના મરશિયા ગાય છે. આહિરોમાં ત્યારથી બંગડી કે સેંથાનો કોઈ રિવાજ રહ્યો નથી. ત્યારથી કાળુ કાપડુ પહેરીને સતત આહિર સ્ત્રીઓ વાહણનો શોક મનાવે છે, તેમની એ વેશભૂષાની પાછળ રહેલા આ સત્યની કથની આપણી દરેક વાત, દરેક પ્રથા પાછળના ઉંડા ઈતિહાસની સાક્ષી પૂરે છે.

1. Devayat Bodar (900 AD – 1025 AD) was an important Yadav Warrior, known for his bravery, sacrifice and endless love towards his motherland, with the help of whom, Ra Navghan, King of Junagadh and father of Ra Khengar, had taken the throne of Junagadh.

2. He was born in the Ahir family of Alidar-Bodidar village of Junagadh in Gujarat.

3. He had two children named Uga (son) and Jahal (daughter) from Sonal. Devat Bodar sacrificed his own son Uga to save Ra Navghan from the Solanki king who dethroned and killed Ra Diyas, father of Ra Navghan. A maid of Ra Diyas handed the little child (Ra Navghan) of Ra Diyas to Devat Bodar. Devat Bodar promised that he would do whatever it takes protect Ra Navghan and to give back his kingdom of Junagadh.

4. Devat Bodar raised Ra Navghan and his own son Uga together till they reached at the age of 12. Someone informed King Solanki that Ra Navghan had been raised by Devat Bodar. Devat Bodar was brought to the king’s court and was asked that whether the information is true or not. Devat Bodar understood the situation and replied positively. The king asked him to bring Ra Navghan. He wrote a famous encrypted message: “રા રાખી ને વાત કરજે આહિરાણી!” meaning “Oh! Ahirani talk but keep Ra!” to his wife Sonal. So his son instead of Ra Navghan is brought to the king, as no one could differentiate between Ra Navghan and Uga. The King tested him, by asking him to kill Ra Navghan (who was actually Uga) by his own hands. Devat Bodar cut off the head of his son, to prove that to the King that he was not his son but was Ra Navghan. The King was still not satisfied. So, he asked to bring Devat Bodar’s wife Sonal and asked her to remove eyes from the head of dead Uga, keep it on ground, and walk on that eyes, without dropping even one drop of tear from her own eyes. As, it was such a cruel and hard test for a mother, but Sonbai did that, to prove that he was not her son. Finally, the king came to the conclusion that the person whose head was cut off was Ra Navghan. Within 10 years to this event, Ra Navghan was grown up to attack Solanki.

5. Devat Bodar who was a leader of his caste Ahir, called his fellow Ahirs to fight against king Solanki to de-throne him and give the throne of Junagadh to Ra Navghan, son of RaDiyas. Ahir caste warriors who are renowned for their valour and bravery fight a severe battle with king Solanki and at last, Solanki loses the battle. Ra Navghan was throned as King of Junagadh. “Ra” dynasty comeback as a ruling dynasty with the help of Ahirs.

6. Today there are two wells constructed by Ra Navghan in Junagadh UpperKot fort. Temple of Devat Bodar is also there at Bodidar village near Junagadh. Today many Bodars live in Gujarat (Specially in Kathiyawad). These Bodars are one of the clan of Devayat Bodar. From 24 April-1 May 2011 a huge function was organised by Bodars in honour of Devat Bodar at Bodidar village, and for changing the name of place Bodidar to Devayatgadh
